Winter 2009‎ > ‎

Jan 17, 2009

The Jan 17th sorting was Cancelled Due to Weather - We have re-scheduled for next Saturday, January 24th @ 2 PM; and will be running the following week as well, as scheduled on January 31st @ 2 PM.

The weather was simply "bad" and it was best to cancel the sorting rather have anyone run into some trailering accident or other problems, so we tried to contact as many riders as we could - sorry if we didn't get to everyone, but as always, it is a good idea to call ahead if you're planning to come out for any events- that way if there is any changes in the sorting schedule, etc, you'll be in the "know".

We ran small practice session on Sunday, with few riders, we had a good time just practicing and sorting cattle. Most of the riders ran about 10+ runs, and we actually had several really fast runs during the day - the Randalls I think had the fastest time, coming around 30 seconds, or so. Riders that came out included,  Dave Lavell, the Randall family, Stacy Smith, Ray Faustman, Darin Hess, Zach Carnes, and Megan McGowen.

In the future, if anyone wants to come out during off event days to practice, just give us a call and we try to accomodate you.

Hope to see everyone on January 24th @ 2 PM for the second event of the Winter Series.

SPECIAL NOTE RE: The Bair Family

Last week was not only a bad weather week for everyone, but the Bair Family suffered a horrible lost - their barn, loaded with 6 good horses caught fire and burnt to ground. From what is known thus far, fire likely started by heat tape on hydraint. All horses were lost in the fire.  For those of us that know the Bair's (Ted, Amy, Jeff, Sami and Ali), and how much they care for their horses, this is not an easy thing to deal with, but fortunately, no humans were harmed. Let's try to pull together some help for the family at our next sorting, and see if we all can't get creative and come with something to help them out. RK ARENA will donate any of their horses to the Bairs to ride during any sorting event, and we'll make sure their runs are paid by the Arena, and if they need any horses stalled, etc we'll certainly make room for them as well. We'll talk more about this during the next sorting event at the rider meeting - but as group, we all should be able to come up with something to help them out. They're good folks and we need to give some thought as to how we can help them out. Let's brainstorm on what we can do for them at our next sorting.
