3rd Event of the Winter Series:

Once again, the weather was less than enjoyable, the main concern from most riders were the conditions of the country roads (main highways were all good) not so much the temperature, and other concerns were the ice and snow pack, and would RK Arena have plenty of trailer parking cleared out for parking. Parking was fine, we ran skid loaders Friday to clear out parking, and we'll do this for any event, so don't be concerned about parking. A lot of riders that called in to let us know they wouldn't be coming this week was generally because their trailers were stuck in snow/ice and they couldn't get their rigs out, or that it was just too cold - all of which makes perfect sense - hope see you all at the next sorting on Feb 14th.

Despite all the poor weather conditions, we had approximately 28 riders that braved the weather, and we had six new riders that came out for their first time at RK Arena.  Even though we had only 28 riders, we ran the most runs that we've ever done in a single day of sorting - we ran over 75 runs.

Regarding Weather Conditions:  We can't emphasize enough, that all riders should call in before Saturday 10 AM  to confirm status of a sorting - it is a good idea for riders to check status of an event anytime that the weather is questionable. We'd hate to cancel an event on Saturday AM, and still have riders show up that didn't call in. Fortunately we did receive several calls from riders on Friday and Saturday questioning if we'd hold the event or cancel it - and we didn't actually know we'd run as scheduled until around 9 AM that morning.  So, as a general rule, unless the roads (mainly the country roads, and not the highways) are safe, we will go ahead and run the scheduled event as planned, but please call in ahead to confirm.

Call In Suggestions: Given the interest in sorting is growing, and with more and more new riders calling during the week to confirm their attendance (which terrific for all of us) you really should try to call or email us during the week early to confirm your attendance. It would be bad deal if riders just showed up and didn't call ahead to confirm - in a case where we're full with riders, and you didn't call in, unfortunately, you'd basically have to keep your horses tied to the trailer in between runs - and that wouldn't be a great time. Reminder, we can only safely hold around 40 head of horses at a single event indoors, so take a few minutes during the week, before Friday evening if you can, and reserve your spot(s).
