The 1st RK ARENA Spring Series Sorting Event:
Our 1st Sping Series Sorting was a lot of fun. Most of the regular riders from the Winter Series Finals which was held the weekend prior to this sorting were not able to attend, but we still had round 30 riders, and had several new riders to RK ARENA come out and ride.
We didn't run any of the open classes, and basically combined all riders into 2 and 3 person novice classes, and ran the one person cowboy challenge (which was a lot of fun).
For this spring series, we want to be able to give the novice riders their own class to compete in, and ask the more experienced riders (pro, intermediate, & open) riders to run in the separate OPEN classes, but if we don't have enough non-novice riders to create at least 15 runs per teams in the open class, we'll have to combined all riders into "open to all" novice class.(es).
Those riders that ride in the novice class and are actually Open riders; they will then earn points in Novice class but for only those events where we didn't have enough open riders create their own class and the open riders had to run in the novice classes. It's not a perfect situation, but we do want to keep trying to crave out a true novice class and give the novice riders a level playing field to compete. The whole goal for RK ARENA was and is to create an opportunity for all riders of all levels to come out and have a good time working cattle and competing - and give the riders something competitive to shoot for (e.g., prize money and trophy prizes) - the objective is not only about winning & taking the prize money or being a points leader, but rather, to come out and have a good time, ride your horse, and enjoy the day with other riders. Hey, winning is important for sure, but enjoying the sport, meeting and riding with other people and just having a great time should be equally important as well.
