Spring Team Sorting Finals Weekend Results
Weather was great for the 1st event in the outdoor arena. The arena is 165' x 200' with the sorting pen cut down to about 165' x 100', with a 14 foot gate opening. The cows were fresh, had lots of room to run, and the horses and riders worked extremely hard to sort the cattle. In practice, we didn't have team sort all 8 cows in something like 47 practice runs, but as the day went and cows figured out where they should run, the riders started having more qualified times and got more comfortable and a lot better at working in the larger pen. Overall, it was really challenging to sort cattle in the outdoor, but it did give the horses a lot more room to lope and strech out - it was nice to be outside working cattle again.
    
We did around 145 runs all day, and finished up just before dark. Everyone had good time, worked really hard, and most of the horses were frankly wore out. All good stuff and made for a great day working with our horses. RK ARENA SUMMER SORTING SCHEDULE: We should have the Summer Schedule nailed down in the next few days, will have one sorting probably June 27 (TBD), and then one every two or three weeks through out the summer. We hope to get our outdoor arena lights in so we can play at night and avoid the some of the heat/sun. We'll send out an announcement in the coming days.
