4th Event of Spring Series:

We had a light turn out for riders, had only about 20 riders but we did over 100 runs, it was a real nice day for indoor sorting.  Many riders called in and had too many things to do to come out, hay making, crops, and recovery from the Memorial Day weekend kept a bunch riders from sorting. But all in all it was a good time.

The qualifying times for all the classes were very fast, no new arena records were set, but if riders were not in the high 20's or low 30's it was tough to get a pay check. LOL. Nice job to Garrett Nott in the 1 man cowboy challenge, he rode slow, controlled and smart, and got a 1st and 3rd place - nice job Garrett - you're giving Teach and Susie a run for their money!  Ana Nott came back this week post her injury from May 9th and rode the fur off her pony - she did a great job as well in both 1 man and 2 man and Susie Campbell and Jen Buchanan were riding really great and Teach, what can we say - he finds his way into the top positions in every class - he rides consistent every week - fantastic job TEACH.

Reminder - The Finals Weekend This Weekend June 6th and 7th:
We'll be sorting in the outdoor arena from here out weather permitting, if the weather turns bad we'll just move indoor. For June 6th and 7th, the below sums of the plans for the event. Besure to let us know if your not receiving emails from us, we just need to get your email address and we'll add you to the email updates we send out to the riders.

Cattle:  We'll use 3 pens of cattle; 9 cows in a pen numbered 0-7 plus a trash cow, we will have 16 new fresh cows mixed in with the 3 pens; for total of 27 head of cattle.

Outdoor Arena:  The full size of the arena is 160' wide x 200' long - the footing is in good shape for this weekend, and over time footing will get even better. For the sorting, the arena will be cut width wise (no chalk line) using panel gates, dimensions of the sorting pen area will be 160' wide by approximately 120' long, with a large 24' opening in the center.  Larger pen size will be good for the horses and we'll have plenty of room for more riders and horses.

Times:  We'll start at 1 PM on Sat and somewhere around 11 AM on Sunday. The weather should be nice (at least as of today's latest weather forecast - LOL).

Format:  We'll run the normal sorting classes and format on Saturday, and Sunday and at the conclusion of Sunday’s event, we're also going to run a new cow control type class which requires 3 riders to sort the cows as we normally do in team sorting, but also pen the cows them in separate holding pen before the run time is called. Everyone is welcome to sign up – it should be a lot of fun, and will require riders to combine sorting and penning techniques. Teams will have more time to complete their runs, probably 3 minutes or so. We intend to run this new class as a regular class during the upcoming Summer Series. The Spring Sorting Series Points Leaders/Winners will receive their awards at the first event of the Summer Sorting and Penning Series.

RK Arena Summer Series:  We'll run 2 & 3 Person sorting; the 1-Man Cowboy Challenge, and 2 & 3 person Jackpots including the new cow control Sorting/Penning Class; plus we hope to hold a few TEAM PENNING events if we can find enough cattle to lease for the penning(s). The dates for the summer series will be provided to everyone in a week or so (check the website, or your email, or just give us a call) still nailing down the exact dates. The Summer Sorting Series schedule is being finalized now, but for sure, we intend to hold the first event mid to late June, then one in July, one or two in August and September. We hope to make these summer events larger, draw more riders, and have added money to make the pot more interesting. We’ll likely hold the summer events at night under the lights, and will probably start around 6 PM. If anyone has any suggestions or comments about the summer deals, please feel free to let us know – welcome your feedback.

This weekend event: Please email or call us and let us know if you're planning to sort either on Saturday or Sunday this weekend, or both days and if you plan to stay over on either Friday or Saturday night. We're hoping to have around 50 to 100 riders (so invite whomever you'd like we'll have plenty of room) to make this weekend competitive and if we get enough riders this weekend, we'd like to have some added money available for the payout pot.
