3rd Event of Spring Series: Weather was nice, a bit windy, but it was a real nice day for indoor sorting. We had around 50 riders and ran 170 runs - the most runs we've ever done in a single day of sorting. Not sure if it was the windy day, or that both the horses and riders came out to ride aggressively or what, but there was a lot of energy in pen and whole lot of super fast times - and unfortunately, we did have one rider accident (Anna Nott) that was caused by a horse that spooked.
Just before we started practice, one of the horses spooked and started bronc'ng out next to Anna Nott while she was sitting on her horse - her horse jumped and she fell off under the horse that was bucking - she got stompped on several times - hurt her right leg pretty badly - but after a quick check out from Debbie Brown (RK ARENA's RN) and then fast trip to DR's office - and few shots and some ex-rays later, she was sent home with no broken bones and another set of cruches - ANNA told the DR that she has several pairs and sizes of cruches and she didn't need another set. Good news, that Anna is doing fine and is ready to ride again. I asked her if we should sell her horses while she was laying on the emergency room bed, with an IV in her little arm - and she said with authority "NO YOU'RE NOT SELLING MY HORSE - I AM RIDING" it was really neat. She is one tough cowgirl.
Heal up quickly Anna & we'll see you on May 30th!
Finals Weekend Reminder: The current plan is that we're going to try to hold the Spring Series Finals (June 6th and 7th) in the outdoor arena - we just need to have good weather that weekend and we need to finish up building and preparing the outdoor. Fingers crossed the weather and the arena will be ready to go. Also, everyone is welcome to ride at the finals, regardless if you have sorted in any of the spring events or not - everyone is welcome to spend the weekend with us.
May 9th Results and the Winners:
Overall we had more qualified times than we have ever had, and times were just simply fast. Brad Clippinger and Susie Campbell cleanned up the 2-Man with a 29.39, Susie Campbell smoked the 1-Man Cowboy challenge with a time of 22.70, and Jason Nott, Lawrence Nott and Rob Lensman set a new arena record in 3-Man with a time of 25.52. The teams that qualified with a time were only separated by only a few tenths and hundreths of second.
